ASSISTments is a forever free math practice and assessment platform used by over 20,000 teachers and 500,000 students. The ASSISTments Foundation (TAF), the organization behind the tool, is a fast-growing nonprofit organization with a growing portfolio of products and services that build on our free teacher tool.

The ASSISTments Foundation (TAF) seeks a Data and Analytics Manager who will collect and analyze data to gain insights for ongoing continuous improvement and to assess impact of various programs. You will work cross functionally with internal teams to understand and meet priority data needs, as well as conduct analyses that help tell our story of impact externally, including creating reports for funders and key district partners. As the organization is in the process of defining our data and evaluation function, you will serve as a thought partner and problem solver, asking good questions to help us define data priorities.

This position reports to the VP of Program and Partnerships, will consistently consult with and support other key teams within the organization (Leadership, Marketing and Communications, Product, Operations), collaborate with our Data Engineer, and as needed for specific projects our affiliated partner.

Please note that this is a one year contract position with potential to turn into a permanent position at the end of the one year contract term. This is also a fully remote position.

Responsibilities

Track, visualize, and analyze user engagement and behavior data in ASSISTments Products

  • Consult with the leadership team and key internal teams to identify priority metrics related to understanding user behavior and engagement within our products
  • Pull and analyze data against these metrics regularly, identifying trends and changes (primarily descriptive analyses with advanced statistical analyses- e.g. correlation, regression- as needed)
  • Support development of strategies that increase user engagement and retention based on data
  • Conduct exploratory analyses of our millions of data points to generate insights that support understanding user behavior and engagement
  • Create systems and structures to ensure data integrity and clarity of data definitions across data pulls
  • Improve our data infrastructure and systems (currently Tableau, Postgres, Hubspot, Mixpanel, UserFlow, Airtable) by supporting our work across these tools

Measurement and Evaluation for ASSISTments Programming

  • Develop and oversee execution of mixed-methods internal evaluations on new programming and products. This includes analyzing survey data and platform analytics on student progress to understand change over time, and bright spots analyses to support learning
  • Collect and analyze data from multiple sources (surveys, platform analytics) at key intervals in the project to inform the ongoing improvement and assessment of impact
  • Lead on securing data sharing agreements and research applications as needed to meet organizational goals for measuring impact
  • Manage relationships with research partners to ensure successful execution of any third-party research. This includes managing scopes of work and timelines associated with research and supporting data requests

Data Storytelling and Visualization

  • Lead the development of clear and engaging data visualizations, dashboards (tableau), and slide decks to relevant internal stakeholders to support data-driven decision making
  • Develop external-facing reports to meet the needs of partners (funders, school districts).
  • Develop an understanding of unique needs and context of different stakeholders and customize reporting accordingly
  • Help ASSISTments tell a story of impact, crafting narratives and case studies from data, including easily consumable visuals for blogs and op-eds

Experience and Skills

Technical Skills:

  • Background in applied math, statistics, business analytics, economics, or a related technical field. Coursework in quantitative and qualitative data analysis and/or program evaluation; masters degree preferred
  • Relevant work experience in data science, learning analytics, analytics engineering or a related field. Experience with product analytics for a technology platform strongly preferred
  • Knowledge and skill for using postgreSQL, ability to manipulate data using R or Python and of tableau (ability to build tableau dashboards)
  • Knowledge of advanced statistical (i.e. multiple regression, hypothesis testing) and machine learning techniques (i.e. clustering, decision tree learning, etc.) for real-world applications
  • Demonstrated ability to create strong, visually appealing, external- ready reports and visualizations, including proficiency using data visualization software. Able to translate data findings for both technical and non-technical audiences
