Director of Product

We seek a Director of Product to shape the future of our ASSISTments learning platform. This is a new, senior leadership role that will help shape the next phase of development, with the goal of reaching millions of students and teachers across the country. Specifically, the Director of Product will be responsible for leading the conversion of our original web-based educational technology application to a newly released, yet not complete system, that is built to advance learning. The Director of Product will supervise a small, existing team of talented engineers and designers as well as a few graduate students.

We are currently a total staff of 30: 15 employees and approximately 15 graduate students from Worcester Polytechnic Institute. We are seeking a Director of Product who possesses strong management skills and a combination of technical skill, user-focused design, team leadership and a passion for education.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise a team of designers and engineers, including one or two new team members and an existing team of capable engineers who are the original architects of the ASSISTments learning platform.
  • Develop a product vision, strategy, and roadmap in collaboration with ASSISTments senior leadership.
  • Maintain a strategic focus; ensure successful and agile product development while also cultivating an understanding across the organization of product vision, product priorities, and progress.
  • Support engineers in the continued overall functionality of the learning tool, and in order to ensure a great user experience, iterate upon it in accordance with user-testing.
  • Collaborate with researchers, our teacher support team, and senior leadership in order to advance product needs and organizational goals, including marketing and development.
  • Generate ideas for new products and features; use market research to define a vision and strategy for product development

Desired Qualifications

  • 5+ years of work in developing web applications used by teachers and students
  • Ability to develop and improve structure, processes, and a process-orientation on the team in order to get projects successfully over the finish line
  • Passion for creating excellent products and resolving user pain points
  • Knowledge of customer intelligence to gather requirements for new features
  • Ability to align resources, seek the input of key stakeholders, and manage others to achieve desired results
  • A strategic outlook for product, business development, and marketing needs
  • Superior analytical, writing, verbal and time management skills
  • UX and software engineering experience preferred

The ASSISTments learning tool has been in use by teachers for many years, but very recently, we’ve skyrocketed our efforts to enhance our product and expand our users while also improving their experience. Thus, we are seeking someone who thrives in a start-up mentality and is comfortable stepping into a variety of existing initiatives while also enjoying innovation and harnessing new ideas.

This is a full time position. If the right person resides within commuting distance of our offices at Worcester Polytechnic Institute, then they will work on campus. If this person is not local, they can be a remote employee (though the ability to visit WPI on occasion is a must). Successful candidates must possess U.S. work authorization.

Take some time to learn more about ASSISTments and then send your resume, cover letter and portfolio, if applicable to Jobs@assistments.org. We are an equal opportunity employer. We seek to maintain a highly diverse staff in an inclusive and progressive working environment.
